Malvi

Special Needs Cat

Malvi is a shy but very sweet cat who was a long-time resident of the PAWS Cattery annex before she had to be isolated in the Sick Bay for eosinophilic granuloma complex, or EGC, an inflammatory skin problem that often affects immunocompromised cats.

Like most orphaned kittens, Malvi may have gone through prolonged periods of hunger, resulting in the malnutrition that made her vulnerable to illnesses like EGC. In her case, the itchiness of her EGC affected her upper lip, which she licked and scratched until the skin wore away. This explains why Malvi’s upper muzzle looks a little thin.

Furthermore, Malvi’s EGC was only exacerbated by the stress of being in a crowded cattery, where she was also easily intimidated by the healthier and rowdier cats. As a result, Malvi also lost weight as her EGC progressed. While isolation in the Sick Bay may have helped her regain weight and stopped the inflammation in her muzzle, it would ultimately be better for her to retire at our sanctuary, where she could have the space and attention she direly needed.
